To all the busy professionals:
If losing weight, gaining energy and getting into the best shape of your life is your goal, then make sure you're doing the following:
Resistance training at least 3x per week for minimum 45 minutes. The routine should be one that focusses on muscle groups that you want to grow. For example if you want a bigger bum as a woman, you would train glutes 2x per week for that week and an accessory session. For a man looking to build a well rounded physique, I'd recommend 3x full body sessions.
Include one major compound lift per session to stimulate the most muscle growth and burn the most calories. This includes bench press, squats, deadlifts etc.
Make sure your sessions have a good intensity to them. There's no point going to the gym to mess around on your phone! You can rest between sets but you need to be pushing yourself hard when you're performing the exercises. Think an 8/10 intensity minimum when lifting.
Rest adequately. Burn out is a real thing and sometimes a step back is required to take 2 steps forward. Sleep, lifestyle, stress management are the keys here.
And lastly, make sure you enjoy your workouts. The best workout routine is the one you stick to, and for that you need to enjoy it.
Working out doesn't only help you look good, it helps you have more energy, stimulates your mind, and makes you feel good about yourself.
